Pair in custody after high-speed chase on Dan Ryan Expressway

CHICAGO — Two people taken into custody after a Friday afternoon high-speed chase on the Dan Ryan Expressway were suspects in a recent residential burglary in Downer’s Grove, the community’s police chief said.

While being surveilled, Downer’s Grove investigators learned the pair may have also been involved in other burglaries in Naperville and unincorporated Kane County earlier Friday.

Downer’s Grove police Chief Mike DeVries said officers were attempting to take the suspects into custody after spotting them at a White Castle restaurant near North Kedzie Avenue and West Addison Street when they took off in the Nissan Rogue, striking a suburban officer.

The officer received minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital.

DeVries said the Illinois State Police Aviation Unit determined the suspects at some point “switched vehicles” near West 31st Street and the Dan Ryan Expressway, getting into a Dodge Minivan.

WGN’s SkyCam 9 was overhead as the light-colored minivan sped through traffic on Interstate 90/94 shortly after 4 p.m., weaving in and out of lanes and striking several other vehicles.
