During the two-day trial in July, prosecutors told the jury that on November 4, 2022, Knoxville Police responded to Tennova North Medical Center because of a reported assault.

The victim reportedly told the officer that she was at her home off of Whittle Springs Road when Sanders got drunk and became angry about the victim calling the police about a previous domestic disturbance. The DA’s office said over the next four hours, Sanders strangled the victim, punched her in the face, knocked her to the ground, and kicked her repeatedly. The victim was able to eventually text her sister, who took her to the hospital. She was treated for bruises all over her body and injuries to her face that caused her eye to nearly swell shut.
