SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) – Tenants living at the Pointe Grand Spartanburg apartment complex said they feel frustrated by Duke Energy delaying their estimated power restoration date.
Bihani Tamang lives in the complex, and said that she’s been in the dark since Friday.
“To be honest, I’m looking for hotels in Charlotte right now because I cannot, [my fiance and I] cannot survive here,” said Tamani.
Tamang, a software engineer said she works from home and relies on internet. She told 7NEWS that her company is based in Asheville, N.C., and has suffered a lot of infrastructure damage from Hurricane Helene, preventing her from going to work physically.
She said she also was forced to throw away thousands of dollar in spoiled food.
“I would say like anywhere from $1,500 to $2,000 and I’m not joking,” said Tamang. “It’s like bottles of sauce and meat, and all of the money I put into groceries for a couple months.”
Hundred of residents at the complex were sent a text message from Duke Energy on Monday with an estimated restoration time of Friday, October 4. Then on Friday, residents received another text message from Duke Energy that said their new estimated restoration date is Sunday, October 6.
