Animal shelter in Collinsville receives support from community after City voted to not renew lease

COLLINSVILLE, Okla. — The Ward-Wiseman Animal Haven in Collinsville is getting support from the community after the City voted unanimously to not renew the shelter’s lease, giving them until the end of the year to find a new home.

FOX23 spoke to the founder of Ward-Wiseman to learn how she was feeling after the sudden news.

The founder of the Ward-Wiseman Animal Haven, Susan Babbitt, has gotten loads of support and even a petition to help save Ward-Wiseman.

She said that the support from the community is giving her a little bit of hope.

“I have no idea how it’s going to turn out. I’m actually praying that I say the right things and we can continue to work there,” Babbitt said.

On September 16, the City of Collinsville voted unanimously to not renew the lease agreement with Ward-Wiseman and that they have until January 1 to find a new place.

Last Thursday, Babbitt and her board chairman met with the Collinsville mayor and city manager to ask how and why they got to where they are right now.
