Columbus Chamber of Commerce President steps down after four years on the job

COLUMBUS, Ga. ( WRBL ) — Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Jerald Mitchell has stepped down from his role effective at the end of the month.

Chairperson Carolyn Bermudez confirmed to WRBL, the Chamber’s board was informed of Mitchell’s decision during a meeting Friday afternoon.

“The executive committee has known for a couple of weeks,” Bermudez said.

Mitchell, 50, has been in his role for just over four years. He said the timing was right to step down.

“I love this community,” Mitchell told WRBL. “And I think this community has a world of opportunities available to it. For me, this was just a good time to step away.”

One of the primary functions of the Chamber is economic development – job creation. Mitchell came into the job during the COVID pandemic and has worked to attract industry to Columbus.

“We have made some strides in economic development,” Mitchell said. “I think this community is well positioned for the future. And I will do everything I can to help.”
