Kalamazoo closing gates, restrooms, water fountains at parks for season

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — The city of Kalamazoo’s Parks & Recreation Department has started closing some of the restrooms, water fountains and vehicle gates at the city’s parks for the fall and winter months.

“Restrooms and water fountains are winterized each year and reopen for the season once freezing temperatures pass and seasonal staff are available for cleaning and maintenance,” a release said, adding that they will reopen on May 1.

The vehicle gates have been closed at Spring Valley Park, Milham Park, Woods Lake Park, and Fairmount Dog Park. The gates at Versluis Dickinson Park will be closed once fall softball is complete, the department said.

The parks will remain open year-round from 8 a.m. to sunset with parking available nearby. Kalamazoo’s municipal golf courses will remain open, weather permitting.
