Two miles of Auburn Street water main to be replaced as part of $1.1M project in 2025

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — A $1.1 million project is soon to be undertaken to replace 2 miles of an aging water main on Auburn Street, originally installed in 1913.

The service line replacement will run from the Auburn and Main roundabout to North Central Avenue.

There will be no cost to local taxpayers, as the money is coming from the U.S. Congress in the form of a grant.

“It’ll be a roadway resurfacing, a bike path, bridge work, and then water main replacement, improving this infrastructure, removing our deteriorating water main just because it’s aging our aging infrastructure, as well as replacing lead service lines, is extremely important to the water division and this funding will help in that,” said Water Superintendent Jamie Rott.

Rott said the project should begin construction early 2025, with completion near the end of the year.
