Father of Boy Shot During Investigatory Police Stop Claims to Have Video Showing Boys Arms Up

Police say teen, cop shot during struggle for gun but father disputes this saying his son’s arms were raised, never had gun in his hands

CHICAGO A father is raising concerns after his teenage son and a Chicago police officer were both injured by the same bullet during a tense encounter in Englewood on Thursday. The officer and the teen, both recovering from their wounds, were shot in a struggle that unfolded after officers confronted the teen, who was armed. The father is disputing the account of the officer who claimed that the shooting occured during a scuffle for the gun.

Scott Gracey, father of 16-year-old Marcus Gracey, expressed shock and frustration over the incident, which occurred near their home in the 5600 block of South Shields Avenue. His son had just finished his homeschooling for the day and was heading out to meet friends at a nearby park when he was stopped by police.

“I woke up to my neighbor banging on the door, telling me my son had been shot,” Scott Gracey said. “It was terrifying.”
