Oklahoma’s small cities and towns cover a large swath of the Sooner State, each characterized by their rich culture, diverse experiences and unique downtowns.
WorldAtlas recently listed the most vibrant downtowns in Oklahoma. Here’s a look:
Guthrie
What was once Oklahoma’s capital, WorldAtlas called Guthrie’s downtown one of the more well-preserved ones in the state. According to the geography publishing resource, the Guthrie Historic District has over 2,000 structures dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The city’s downtown is recognizable by the historic Pollard Theatre as well as its antique shops, art galleries and cafes.
Ardmore
WorldAtlas calls Ardmore’s downtown an area with a mix of history and modernity. Its historic district contains the Colston Building, which features early 20th-century architecture, and the Santa Fe Depot.
The Greater Southwest Historical Museum provides insight into the region’s Native American history that shaped the area, as cited by WorldAtlas. Additionally, the Goddard Center for the Visual and Performing Arts offers a cultural dimension to downtown Ardmore.
