Oktoberfest fundraiser at Deutsches Haus promises German fun and culture immersion

SPOKANE, Wash. — This Saturday, the German American Society is hosting its annual Oktoberfest at the Deutsches Haus in Spokane.

On Friday, members from the society were setting up for this highly anticipated event, which is also a fundraiser.

“It’s just one of those fun events and at the same time it’s a fundraiser to keep this wonderful building alive. Our goal is to keep the German culture going,” said Karin King, the president of the German American Society.

From 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., the 127-year-old building will come alive with live polka music from the Oompah’s and Ma’s.

Guests will be able to eat a traditional German dinner with authentic imported German beer.

“We’re having fun and we have good dinners, we have good beer and we have a lot of fun to go along with it, along with the history,” said King.

There will also be stein-holding contests and chances to learn more about the German culture.
