A Lane County Jury finds man guilty of double homicide in Springfield

A Lane County jury found 44-year-old Robin Roberts guilty of two counts of first-degree murder on Friday for the stabbing deaths of Joshua Vining and Richard Brumbach in Springfield.

According to the Lane County District Attorney’s Office, Roberts was accused of stabbing and slashing Vining and Brumbach at the Red Bird Mobile Park near G Street and 28th Street in Springfield just after 9 p.m. on April 12, 2022.

When Springfield police officers arrived on the scene, they allegedly found Roberts holding a bloody knife while standing near the two dead bodies. The DA’s office says Roberts also repeatedly stated he was an undercover agent with the FBI and had acted in self-defense.

Court documents reveal that in an interview with a detective at the Springfield Police Department, Roberts repeated he was an undercover FBI agent investigating serial killers and rapists. He also admitted to having smoked methamphetamine shortly before the murders.

Roberts was arraigned on April 14, 2022, for two counts of first-degree murder for “unlawfully and intentionally” causing the death of Vining and Brumbach in the “course of the same criminal episode.”
