Wearing a throwback East High running singlet, Katahdin Staples mustered up a vintage performance on Saturday. The sophomore from Bettye Davis East High won the Division I boys title at the Alaska State Cross Country Championships, earning the first title for a Thunderbirds boys runner since Don Clary in 1974. Clary, a legend on the track and trail, became the first Alaskan to compete in track and field at the Olympics.
