When Darrion Dupree thinks of his fellow Wisconsin true freshman running backs, he thinks of the well-known Spiderman meme featuring three identical superheroes pointing at each other.
“We’re locked in, for sure,” Dupree said, referring to himself, Dilin Jones and Gideon Ituka, all of whom saw action Saturday in Wisconsin’s 52-6 shellacking of Purdue . “Dillin and Gid, those are my guys. We’re going to be special, for sure.”
Dupree has shown, both in camp and even occasionally in games, why he’s among the most intriguing players on the 2024 roster. In a week where leading rusher Chez Mellusi left the team and opened a door for more touches, Dupree ran seven times for 27 yards, but just as importantly caught both passes thrown his way for 23 yards.
“My hands are certified,” he said with a smile when asked about his pass catching.
One of those catches was a demonstration of his elite athletic ability, even if it only yielded five yards. Dupree caught a pass and seemed to spin away from two defenders while keeping his balance low to the ground, even though he dropped and picked up the ball in the process. He was ruled down — possibly incorrectly — and lost out on a few extra yards.
