Rockford’s Fiesta Hispana ran for about 20 years, a celebration of Latino culture

In 1983, Rudy and Adelfa Ortiz and Frank and Gloria Cudia founded Fiesta Hispana to fill a void in the community, celebrating Latino culture in Rockford, Illinois.

For about 20 years, Fiesta Hispana was the premier family-friendly event in the area, offering entertainment for all ages. During its tenure, it stood as the largest celebration of Latino culture in the Rockford area, drawing crowds with its vibrant and diverse features.

Attendees eagerly anticipated the array of food and merchandise vendors, the excitement of the queen contest and the pride of the flag presentation. The event was renowned for its folkloric dancers, who showcased traditional dances that celebrated the rich cultural heritage of Latino countries. The jalapeƱo eating contest added a spicy twist to the festivities, while a variety of musical acts provided a lively soundtrack that kept spirits high throughout the event.
