SWAT responds to call in east Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department’s SWAT team responded to a call Sunday morning regarding a barricaded subject.

According to police, the call came in at approximately 3:40 a.m. and was near the 1100 block of Airport Boulevard in east Austin. APD said to avoid the area.

Police said a woman’s residence was broken into, but she was able to get out and call 911 from a neighboring apartment.

According to APD, officers tried to make callouts to get the person to come out, but it was determined SWAT was needed for a tactical presence.

APD said SWAT arrived and began communicating with the subject on the phone.

Police said SWAT decided to enter the apartment; however, the suspect was not located.

As of 8:30 a.m., APD said the suspect was not in custody.

APD said the investigation into the incident was ongoing. Police added this was an isolated incident, and there was no threat to the public.
