SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – The South Carolina Forestry Commission has ended its ban against burning certain materials for in two more counties.
The forestry commission announced Saturday a ban originally enacted for 20 counties on October 1 would be lifted in Greenville and Spartanburg on Sunday morning.
The ban initially covered 20 counties where infrastructure had been dramatically impacted by Hurricane Helene, and has gradually been lifted in the majority of those counties.
As of Sunday, only three counties – Aiken, Saluda and Greenwood – remain under a burn ban.
Anyone who plans to burn storm debris in a county no longer under the burn ban must still notify the forestry commission, and take certain precautions to ensure the safety of the burn, including staying with the fire until it is completely out.
State law requires residents to notify the Forestry Commission before burning outdoors. The law applies to burning leaves, limbs and branches people clean from their years and does not apply within town or city limits.
