The next generation of Wisconsin short track racers are in it for the long haul

WEST SALEM – If you missed Gabe Sommers and Levon Van Der Geest racing for the ASA Midwest Tour title, you very well could get another chance.

Or two. Or three. Or many more.

The two are all set up for a rivalry that both would be happy to extend for decades, and fans who’ve enjoyed the rich history of Wisconsin super late model stock car racing probably should be pleased if they do.

“Yeah, we need those staple guys that carry the flag for the series,” said Ty Majeski, the Seymour native who parlayed his regional short track dominance into national short-track notice and a NASCAR truck ride.

“They’re both good little racers. I remember when Gabe first started, he’s come a long way since then. He’s turned into a really smart, smart race car driver, and he’s got raw speed. And same thing with Levon. Levon, specifically this year, has been really good, and Gabe probably the past couple years has been one of the cars you know you’re gonna have to beat when you show up to the racetrack.”
