Two dead, one critically injured after fire engulfs Southeast DC home

WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — DC Fire and EMS said two people have died and a person is in critical condition after a fire broke out at a home in Southeast D.C. on Sunday morning.

Crews said they were dispatched to the 3400 block of 23rd St for a working fire.

When first responders arrived at the scene, they saw fire coming out of a 2-story end of row townhouse with people possibly trapped.

Crews were able to extinguish the fire.

First responders said a woman was rescued via a ladder and transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Crews also reported that two adults died in the fire.

DC Fire and EMS said in a post on X that their “thoughts and prayers are with their family and friends.”
