Severe Thunderstorms & Damaging Winds Possible Across Parts of New York, Pennsylvania, and Ohio

Severe Thunderstorm Watch in Effect Until 11pm EST

10/06/24 7:49pm ET

Good evening everyone. As forecasted, strong to severe thunderstorms have begun to impact parts of western New York and Pennsylvania. While it didn’t look good for a while accuracy-wise and the front seemed on the dry-side, thunderstorms have quickly erupted across the forecast area.

A broken line of individual cells and clusters of powerful thunderstorms range from western and central New York, into western and central Pennsylvania, and on into southeast parts of Ohio. Observations have included quarter size hail and winds upward of 60mph.

For this reason, the National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch across parts of New York, Pennsylvania, and Ohion until 11pm ET on the most eastern edge of the watchbox. Severe Thunderstorm Warnings exist at this time until 8:30pm in NY counties such as Wayne, Wyoming, and Livingston.

Look for locally damaging winds, frequent lightning, torrential rain, large hail, and risk of an isolated tornado. Damaging winds and large hail are the primary risk at this time.
