This customer was ready to joyfully bite into the Boston cream donut before he noticed something strange about it.
If you haven’t tried one before, a Boston cream donut is similar to a standard donut, but it’s stuffed with pastry cream and covered in a chocolate glaze. They usually have a classic round shape and sometimes appear in a longer, almost rectangular form.
What was off about the donut?
As Robertson grabs the donut to taste it, he quickly realizes it’s not right. What was expected to be a complete donut turns out to be divided in two.
Weird.
Upon examining the pastry more closely, it becomes clear. This seems to be a hot dog bun that’s been cleverly disguised as a pastry. It’s essentially bread with a pastry center and chocolate filling.
He decides to test it out by taking a bite. He confirms it’s indeed a hot dog bun.
“Goddamn H-E-B. You for real?” he says, astonished.
What is H-E-B and why is it so popular?
H-E-B, a well-known supermarket originating from Texas, was established over a hundred years ago, in the year 1905. It boasts over 430 stores, with the majority situated in Texas, with a few scattered across Mexico as well.
