LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — After mistakenly being released from a Virginia jail, a man accused of punching and dragging a woman after a minor car crash in Las Vegas, is back in police custody.

Man accused in Las Vegas attack arrested in Newport News

Jose Soriano, 42, was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Sterling, Virginia on Wednesday, Oct. 3. He will be extradited to Las Vegas to face the following charges:

  • Battery (3 counts)
  • Coercion with force or threat or force
  • Destroying property of another valued from $250 – $5,000

Soriano was initially arrested in Newport News, Virginia on Aug. 12, 2024, but was released one week later when Virginia authorities didn’t receive the necessary paperwork from the Clark County District Attorney’s Office in Las Vegas. District Attorney Steve Wolfson told a Virginia television station that “the district attorney’s office made a mistake by not agreeing to extradite him when we should have, but it doesn’t preclude us from continuing our prosecution and he will eventually be brought to justice.”
