While federal money has been secured, there’s still work to be done on funding, and the discussion around toll prices is still a hot topic.
ALDOT, the Alabama Department of Transportation, recently secured a $550 million federal grant to help fund the project.
But that’s only a part of the total cost, so the state is working to get low-interest loans through the federal government to cover nearly half of the project.
These loans, around $1.75 billion, will help pay for the work needed to get things started.
