Speaker will give Nixa parents free talk on fighting kids’ digital distractions

A nationally known author is visiting Nixa Public Schools to talk to parents about the dangers of too much screen time in children and how to combat digital distractions.

Tom Kersting, a psychotherapist and television contributor, is the author of best-selling books “Disconnected: How to Protect Your Kids from the Harmful Effects of Device Dependence” and “Raising Healthy Teenagers: Equipping Your Child to Navigate the Pitfalls and Dangers of Teen Life.”

Kersting has been a regular guest expert on national news and talk shows, where he has offered parenting, relationship and wellness advice.

Nixa parents are invited to attend Kersting’s lecture “Mental Wealth: Raising Happy, Healthy Children in a Screen-Saturated World.” It is 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20 at the Aetos Center for the Performing Arts, 514 S. Nicholas Road.

Zac Rantz, chief communication officer, said tickets to the event are free but they are required due to venue capacity of roughly 1,136.

“It is free for Nixa families,” he said.
