Rockford proclaims October 7th as ‘LED Light Day’

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara has signed a proclamation declaring “LED Light Day” on October 7th, 2024, in celebration of National LED Light Day.

According to a written proclamation, “LED lights have moved forward technology, scientific achievement, increased energy efficiency, and have numerous environmental benefits.”

National LED Light Day began in 2014 when Isamu Akasaki, Hiroshi Amano, and Shuji Nakamura won the Nobel Peace Prize for their work on blue light-emitting diodes (LEDs).

The proclamation goes on to celebrate LED lighting for reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions, and saving Rockford taxpayers energy and thousands of dollars each year.
