Smoke and Decreased Air Quality Continues

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – Today was sunny and hazy on the western slope. The hazy conditions are because of smoke from a wildfire in Utah. The Yellow Lake fire in Utah is currently the reason for why we have smoke moving into our area. This fire started last weekend and has grown since then. The wind pattern shifted this weekend to a more easterly flow, which has allowed the smoke to move in our direction. This wind pattern will stay the same the next few days, so we will continue to see smoke move into our area. Some good news though is that there are rain chances in Utah Tuesday that could help reduce that fire and smoke. The models currently have the smoke clearing up Tuesday, which may be because of those rain chances. We will continue to watch it. This has caused our air quality to drop from good to unhealthy. If you have pre-existing upper respiratory health problems, staying indoors the next few days when you can is encouraged. Even if you don’t have respiratory health problems, you do not want to be breathing in this smoke either since it is not healthy. Scheduling those outdoor activities to a later date is a good idea.
