Concertgoers potentially exposed to bat at Salt Shed

CHICAGO — The Chicago Department of Public Health issued an alert for a possible bat exposure at a Salt Shed concert last month.

During the Goose concert on Sept. 12, CDPH said a potential exposure to a bat took place at the Salt Shed, located in the 1300 block of North Elston.

Bats in and around Chicago have been found to carry rabies, although not all bats carry rabies, according to CDPH.

If you attended the concert and were bitten or scratched by a bat, or if you had direct contact with a bat, CDPH says to contact a healthcare provider as soon as possible to discuss rabies post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP).

Rabies post-exposure prophylaxis consists of a dose of human rabies immune globulin and four doses of vaccine, which is highly effective in preventing rabies.
