Man pleads no contest to assault in attack on 2 women

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A man who faced charges including attempted murder and mayhem in an attack on his roommate and her friend has pleaded no contest to a felony assault charge and faces a two-year prison term, prosecutors said.

Ryan Clagg, 32, pleaded no contest Friday to assault with force likely to result in great bodily injury. He is scheduled to be sentenced next month.

On the morning of June 19, police arrested Clagg after arriving at a home on Whitlock Street to find him assaulting a woman, according to court filings. A 911 caller reported Clagg was possibly under the influence of PCP, a hallucinogenic drug commonly referred to as angel dust.

The roommate told police Clagg made strange statements and forced his way into the apartment. She said he chased her to the backyard, where he wrapped a forearm around her neck and choked her.

She managed to break free but Clagg tackled and again choked her to the point she “felt as though she was about to lose consciousness and die,” she told police.
