PLEA DEAL: 3 to 16 years for shooting brother-in-law

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A man accused of shooting his brother-in-law at a family cookout on Fort Wayne’s north side this past August is now facing 3 to 16 years in prison.

Anthony J. Kidd, 53, pleaded guilty in Allen Superior Court to a Level 3 felony count of aggravated battery Monday in connection to the shooting, which took place shortly after 10 p.m. Aug. 3 at a home on Peartree Lane.

Kidd’s plea came as part of a plea agreement with Allen County prosecutors, who agreed to drop additional charges of criminal recklessness and felony use of a firearm they initially levied against him.

The plea deal does not call for a fixed term of imprisonment, but Level 3 felonies carry sentences of 3 to 16 years in prison with an advisory sentence of 9 years, according to Indiana code.

On the night of the shooting, medics took a man who had been shot at the home to a hospital in life-threatening condition with a laceration to his liver, according to Allen Superior Court documents.
