Suspect taken into custody after standoff in Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A suspect has been taken into custody after the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and a SWAT team responded to a standoff on Monday.

Deputies and SWAT personnel responded to the 7900 block of Oak Ridge Highway. A sheriff’s office spokesperson said the incident began at 3:20 p.m. and the suspect is believed to be armed.

Two children, who were initially inside when SWAT & KCSO’s Negotiation Team arrived, were unharmed and released to officers.

The spokesperson announced just after 7:30 p.m. that the suspect was taken into custody and no injuries were reported. Russell Kline, 46, faces two counts of aggravated kidnapping.

Oak Ridge Highway between Bisco Drive and Karns Valley Drive was closed during the incident.
