Knox County Sued By Layla Soliz Over Forced Hijab Removal

KNOXVILLE – Layla Soliz-an observant Muslim woman who was forced to remove and be photographed without wearing wearing her hijab after being booked on a minor misdemeanor charge while protesting at the University of Tennessee this summer-has sued Knox County and Knox County officials. Mrs. Soliz’s complaint seeks redress against the defendants for forcing her to remove her hijab and then publishing her uncovered booking photograph to the public in contravention of both her religious rights and Knox County Sheriff’s Office policy.
