Las Vegas man faces involuntary manslaughter in deadly fight

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A Las Vegas man is facing an involuntary manslaughter charge after a fight resulted in another man’s death.

On Sept. 20, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of an unconscious man at the Las Vegas Convention Center near Paradise Road and East Desert Inn Road.

According to the arrest report, witnesses told officers a fight had taken place between Andrew Nicky Faaleava, who is either 44 or 45, and Danny Rhyu. One witness stated that she had urged the two men to stop arguing and they did but 20 minutes later a physical fight began.

Four witnesses told police “Andrew slammed or threw Danny to the ground where he landed headfirst,” and he began bleeding from his head, documents said.

Rhyu was taken to a nearby hospital on Sept. 20 and on Sept. 25 he was pronounced dead. According to the Clark County Coroner’s office, his death was caused by a “blunt force injury to the head.”

On Sept. 27, Faaleava was taken into custody and was booked on one count of involuntary manslaughter. Involuntary manslaughter is a felony crime that involves the killing of a person without the intent to do so.
