California Woman Sentenced to 8 Years for Attempted Methamphetamine Possession and Distribution

Heather Carter, 50, of Santa Monica, California, was sentenced to eight years in federal prison for attempting to possess methamphetamine with the intent to distribute, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Wisconsin announced today.

Chief U.S. District Judge James D. Peterson issued the sentence on August 22, 2024, following Carter’s guilty plea on March 14, 2024.

According to court records, law enforcement began investigating Carter in January 2022, when they received information suggesting that she regularly traveled from California to Wisconsin to purchase methamphetamine.

Investigators discovered that she would mail the drugs back to her residence in Coon Valley, Wisconsin, for further distribution.

On September 19, 2022, while Carter was en route from California to Wisconsin, law enforcement learned that she had stopped at a post office in Washington, Utah, where she mailed a package addressed to her home.

A postal inspector located the package, and a subsequent search warrant revealed that it contained 422 grams of methamphetamine, along with cocaine and fentanyl, the department says.
