Neighbors react after juveniles involved in stabbing at Beech Grove apartment

BEECH GROVE, Ind. – A stabbing Sunday night at a Beech Grove apartment complex involving juveniles has parents in the area on edge.

Just after 7 p.m., Beech Grove police responded to the Willow Glen South apartments on the report of a person stabbed.

Neighbors said that the victim was a young boy.

Denver Hodnett has only lived in the complex for around 2 months but already has strict rules for his 13-year-old son.

“He can’t go to the basketball courts and play because there’s always just some wild kids trying to steal his bike or chase him down for who knows what reason, all these kids are just trying to fight,” he said.

Hodnett moved from an area that he said wasn’t the greatest, thinking Beech Grove would be safer.

However, he has concerns with the kids in the neighborhood. He said his son usually goes over to the church lot to shoot hoops to avoid them.

“He doesn’t really get out much,” said Hodnett. “I kind of keep him in the house, and even more so, after what happened last night.”

Hodnett said he heard a commotion going on outside and walked out to see several emergency vehicles around the basketball court, along with a boy being taken away in an ambulance.
