Rochester police make arrest in 2020 Genesee St. homicide investigation

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The Rochester Police Department has made an arrest in a homicide investigation from an April 2020 shooting on Genesee Street.

On the night of April 29, 2020, officers said 32-year-old Nathan L. Bernard was found unconscious and bleeding on Genesee Street. Bernard was rushed to Strong Hospital, where he died.

On Monday, investigators identified 31-year-old Jalen Reed from Rochester as the suspect who shot and killed Bernard.

According to RPD, Reed was seen by police leaving a house in Rochester Monday. He was safely taken into custody.

Investigators said on the night of the shooting, Bernard was standing on the sidewalk with a group of people when Reed approached the group and fired rounds from a .40 caliber handgun. RPD adds Bernard was the intended target in this shooting.

Reed has been charged with murder in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree. He will be arraigned Tuesday morning in Rochester City Court.
