Firefighter Storytime at Karl Juninger Memorial Library

The Karl Junginger Memorial Library collaborated with the Waterloo Fire Department to present a firefighter storytime in recognition of October being Fire Safety Month.

Matthew Petrie presented to the families about the importance of fire safety including how to take care of home fire/smoke detectors.

When the families went outside to see the fire truck up close, Aiden Ciha showed how much safety gear firefighters wear and how to get everything on in less than two minutes! It was important to have the young children listen to how a firefighter’s voice sounds like through the breathing mask, so they know a firefighter is a helper and not something scary. The Waterloo Fire Department generously handed out small activity books, stickers, and plastic firefighter hats to all the young participants.

The Waterloo Fire Department and KJM Library also continue to celebrate Fire Safety Month through a month-long reading challenge for ALL ages. Paper reading logs can be picked up at the library’s front desk, or patrons may use the reading app Beanstack to track their reading progress. One of the youth grand prizes is a fire truck ride to school!
