The Southwest Power Pool which controls the electric grid covering Oklahoma and 13 other states turned 20 years old this week. The official birthday date was Oct. 4. Twenty years ago, Oct. 4, 2004, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approved and designated SPP as an RTO or Regional Transmission Organization. The approval allowed the grid operator to expand services to members and eventually led to growth of the SPP footprint and more than $3.6 billion in annual benefits.
