Third MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility escapee arrested

Police have arrested the third person who escaped from MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility in Woodburn in February.

Angel Diaz-Barrera, 19, of Salem, was arrested on a warrant Sept. 4 by Oregon State Police and was taken to Clackamas County Jail. Diaz-Barrera was serving a sentence at MacLaren for robbery and carry/use of a dangerous weapon in Marion County. He was returned to OYA custody.

The Oregon Youth Authority released the new information on its “Inside OYA” blog as an update to the news release first published in February.

Diaz-Barrera’s brother, Julian Diaz-Navarro, 19, who also escaped in February, was arrested in May and returned to MacLaren. He was transferred to Washington County Jail in June where he remains, according to OYA spokesperson William Howell.

The third escapee, Xavier Swimm, 21, was arrested in May in Idaho. Swimm pleaded guilty in June to assaulting a staff member at Rogue Valley Youth Correctional Facility and was sentenced to two years in prison. He is currently at Two Rivers Correctional Facility with an earliest release date in 2026.
