Texas man arrested in fatal Columbia County semi-truck crash

COURTLAND, Wis. — Columbia County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a Texas man on Friday after a fatal crash in the Town of Courtland.

The crash occurred at the intersection of County Highways A and G and involved a semi-truck and trailer and a passenger truck. The driver of the passenger truck, a 21-year-old woman, was found unresponsive and bystanders had begun performing CPR before first responders arrived.

The woman was taken by MedFlight to an area hospital where she later died from injuries suffered in the crash. Her name was not released.

An investigation allegedly found that the semi-truck and trailer ran a stop sign along County Highway G and drove into the path of the passenger truck on County Highway A, causing it to crash into the trailer.

The Wisconsin State Patrol conducted a crash reconstruction and a commercial vehicle inspection, which the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office said will help provide a clearer picture of the facts of the crash.

The semi-truck driver, a 25-year-old man from Garland, Texas, cooperated with the investigation and was arrested. He faces a charge of homicide by negligent operation of a motor vehicle, though he has yet to make an initial court appearance.
