Beaverton students embrace ‘Kindness Counts’

BEAVERTON, Ore. (KOIN) — At a time when our country seems divided on so many issues, elementary students in Beaverton are cutting through the noise with kindness and coffee.

The Kindness Counts campaign involves the 19 Beaverton elementary schools, all participating through Election Week. Different weeks are dedicated to different schools. It starts in the classroom when students draw their ideas for kindness, often with messages of encouragement and hope.

Those images end up on stickers placed on coffee cups served throughout Beaverton at the four Coffee Rush locations.

The Beaverton School District announces each week on social media which school’s stickers will be featured and which coffee spot is involved. The Kindness Counts campaign runs until November 7.

Charity Billings, the Coffee Rush manager at the store on Allen Boulevard, told KOIN 6 News they took part in the campaign for the Fir Grove Elementary’s Kindness Counts sticker week. Billings said the stickers definitely “brighten people’s days, too, when they’re having rough days. How can you be upset when there’s a little kid drawing for you?”
