Health district investigates hot tub incident at Las Vegas-area gym

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The Southern Nevada Health District confirmed with 8 News Now that they are investigating a report of a Las Vegas Athletic Club (LVAC) member having an incident in a hot tub, on Sunday afternoon.

A gym member told 8 News Now that he and another individual discovered a man unresponsive and face down in a hot tub. The man was given CPR and a defibrillator.

He was later taken away by ambulance. His status is unknown at this time.

This incident follows the closure of pools at the LVAC due to a near-drowning and the Health District’s determination that the death of a 58-year-old woman was preventable. This situation resulted in a court battle, which mandated that LVAC hire lifeguards instead of relying solely on live camera feeds for monitoring their pools.

Hot tubs at LVAC were allowed to remain open because the facility said they were not classified as pools. However, at one point, the local health club chain contended in court that the hot tubs were equivalent to pools.
