Wife of zTrip driver injured in shooting talks after attack

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City zTrip driver continues to fight for his life nearly a month after he was shot while working.

Serge Benoit was shot on September 15 while dropping off a rider near E. 9th Street and Myrtle Avenue.

His wife says her life changed that day after she got the call that her husband had been shot while working.

She said Serge has had several complications and continues to fight for his life.

“My life is changed,” said Yveline Benoit, Serge’s wife. “Everything is upside down now. Everything is upside down.”

Serge Benoit moved to Kansas City in 2021 to be closer to his daughter.

Before that, he had been driving a taxi for 40 years in New York.

Yveline describes her husband as a caring, hardworking family man.

“He’s a good father, a good man, a hard worker,” Yveline explained. “He’s a funny guy, he’s caring, sensitive. He’s a good, good man.”

Benoit’s wife says the bullet caused extensive damage to his mouth, jaw, and tongue. She said the trauma of the shooting caused organ failure and a stroke, leaving Benoit with mobility issues on his left side.
