Coroner: Heat did not cause San Jose homeless boy’s death

(KRON) — The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner Office is investigating the death of a 14-year-old homeless boy in San Jose. Officials have not determined the boy’s cause of death, but investigators said they have ruled out hot weather as a factor.

Temperatures in San Jose rose to over 100 degrees during the first week of October . Seven people who died during the record-breaking heat wave may have suffered heat-related deaths, the coroner’s office said.

“The Medical Examiner-Coroner is confirming investigation into seven potential heat related deaths reported October 2-October 7.  Of the seven potential heat-related deaths, two involve the unhoused,” coroner’s office officials wrote.

Local homeless advocates said the heat wave might have led to the boy’s death, however, coroner’s officials disagree.

On Tuesday, the Medical Examiner-Coroner did not release any additional information about the 14-year-old homeless boy’s suspected cause of death.
