Raccoons Overrun Washington Home

Additional Coverage:

A woman in Poulsbo, Washington, was forced to call 911 after she was surrounded by nearly 100 raccoons. The woman, who had been feeding the raccoons for years, said the situation had gotten out of hand in recent weeks.

The raccoons had become increasingly aggressive, demanding food day and night. The woman said she had received quotes as high as $500 per raccoon to trap and relocate them.

Officials with the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office referred the woman to the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife. The department warns against feeding raccoons, as it can lead to aggression and overcrowding, which can spread disease.

A spokesperson for the department said the woman was working with a trapper. However, wildlife conflict specialists and enforcement officers from the department were not dispatched.
