Storm Traps Tourists at Disney World

Additional Coverage:

Disney World visitors are facing an unexpected adventure as Hurricane Milton approaches Florida. Originally anticipating theme park rides and character meet-and-greets, they now find themselves hunkered down at the resort to ride out the storm.

The storm’s rapid intensification surprised forecasters and stranded Disney enthusiasts who had not planned for potential travel disruptions. Many have had flights canceled and alternative transportation options are unavailable.

Disney World Resort has remained operational so far, but announced that theme parks will close at 1 p.m. on Wednesday and likely remain closed on Thursday. The hurricane is expected to approach Florida’s west-central coast on Wednesday night, with evacuation mandates in place along the coast and the Orlando airport closing on Wednesday.

Despite the closures, Disney has reassured guests that they have ample backup generators and have relocated campers to hotels at no cost. Some visitors remain nervous about the potential impact of the storm, while others have opted to cancel their trips at the last minute.

Theme park vacation planners are strongly discouraging travelers from visiting Florida during the hurricane, as it can disrupt plans and put families at risk.
