TWRA offers grants for communities, businesses to make trash bear-resistant

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is offering a total of $250,000 in grants to help local governments, communities, and businesses purchase bear-resistant garbage containers.

The TWRA announced the grant funds on Tuesday, saying the grants are available for cast-share funding to purchase bear-resistant containers such as dumpsters, trash cans, and compactors. The effort is part of a longer-term project to secure garbage within Tennessee’s bear range.

Applications are required to be postmarked by October 31, 2024.
