Operational audit of the city of Milton’s finances completed ahead of schedule

Just six months in to what was expected to be a nearly two-year ordeal, the State Auditor General’s Office has concluded its operational audit of financial activities within the city of Milton .

City Manager Ed Spears said that while the auditors have not yet turned over a final report of their findings, it appeared as though the city had escaped their scrutiny relatively unscathed.

“I will report to you they did communicate some things they have identified. No one came with handcuffs. There was no fraud, waste or abuse that was identified,” Spears told the City Council at a Tuesday work session. “They do have some corrective items that we totally expected and we look forward to concluding this.”

The state’s Joint Legislative Auditing Committee voted in December, at the request of state Sen. Doug Broxson, to have the Auditor Generals Office examine Milton’s finances. The audit was to center primarily around the city’s management of the North Santa Rosa Water Reclamation Project and its ongoing effort to build a wastewater treatment plant.
