Betty Ann Tullio Eiswerth, an Erie native and the oldest daughter of Erie’s longest-serving mayor, the late Louis J. Tullio, has died.

Eiswerth’s father a giant in Erie politics

The daughter of the late Louis J. and Mary Cecilia (McHale) Tullio, Eiswerth grew up in Erie.

Her father was an icon in Erie politics who served six terms and 24 years as Erie’s mayor.

First elected in 1965, Tullio took office in January 1966.

He served as mayor until his death in April 1990 , when he died quietly in his sleep nearly three years after being diagnosed with amyloidosis, an incurable blood disease.

Tullio was 73.

Passionate about family, traveling

Eiswerth and her husband Tom, whom she married in June 1963, would eventually leave Erie and move to Cleveland to start a life there.

“Betty Ann’s passions were her children and grandchildren, taking pictures, caring for her flowers, and traveling,” her obituary states. “Betty Ann and her husband Tom traveled through China, Africa, Europe, South America and 49 States (only missing Oregon). Together they visited every continent except Australia and Antarctica.”
