Gas shortages grow in Florida as Milton’s landfall nears. Map show hardest hit cities

Three of every five gas stations are without fuel in the Tampa-St. Petersburg area just hours before the projected landfall of Hurricane Milton .

Gas Buddy , a gas station location and savings app, started tracking outages on Monday night. Since then nearly a quarter of the state’s 7,915 gas stations were without fuel. Most of the stations that provide power for electric cars were still operating.

The National Hurricane Center expects Milton will make landfall on Florida’s west coast late Wednesday into early Thursday. The storm has been rapidly upgraded and downgraded in the past few days as meteorologists grapple with the storm’s destructive potential .
