HURRICANE MILTON: ‘DANGEROUS TORNADO’ moving north

1:05 p.m.

Some shelters are being closed, officials stated.

“Sarasota County is actively monitoring winds ahead of the storm so we can give community members every moment to get out, but that window is quickly closing,” it stated. “They need to leave now. If they don’t they risk being stranded as the winds increase.”

Both Fruitville Elementary and Taylor Ranch Elementary are “no longer options for evacuation.”

For Fruitville, the next closest evacuation center is Philippi Shores Elementary, 4747 S. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, the county stated. The Gulf Gate Elementary parking lot is full.

For Taylor Ranch, the next closest center is Heron Creek Middle School 6501 W Price Blvd, North Port.

“Time is running out to evacuate before Hurricane Milton. Evacuations have been ordered for Levels A, B, C plus manufactured communities or a mobile or boat home,” it stated. “If you are located in one of these levels, leave now. Head to either a family or friend’s home in a higher level or an evacuation center.”
