South Plains students participate in adaptive field day at Frenship

WOLFFORTH — Special education students from across the South Plains had a unique opportunity to showcase their athletic prowess in a safe, inclusive environment Tuesday during the Region 17 Adaptive Field Day hosted by Frenship ISD at Peoples Bank Stadium.

The event featured activities like volleyball, tug-of-war and cornhole and gave special education life skills students an opportunity to get out of the classroom and mingle with peers from other area schools.

“It gives them the opportunity to come out and do something that most kids get to go do all the time, but that maybe they aren’t able to do because of safety or of inclusion,” said Jennifer Pierce, director of special education for Frenship ISD. “This is an inclusive environment where it doesn’t matter what skill level they are, they get to participate and have a good time.”

Jeremiah Pardo, a senior at Frenship High School, said he enjoyed getting to participate in the day’s events and meet new friends from different schools.
